Pedal People Charity, Brighton are the lead charity recruiting for a few of our charity friends. We have extensive experience of relevant cargo trikes in each charity fleet. Each charity is equally happy to take one individual mechanic per base or to share someone who could do regular hours and/or holiday cover for each base for example.
Role: Weekly work to check, repair and manage fleet (or fleets if you choose to take up multiple-site options) of accessible trikes.
Pay: £22 per hour. PLUS ‘urgent fix’ additional fee. PLUS retainer fee paid for weekly checks by standing order in addition to hourly servicing work. Annual pay average is £900 per trike e.g. 8 trikes = £7200 annual income.
Hours:
- 8 per month minimum plus servicing hours averaging 3-4 hours per depending on which base. Average 12 hours per month. More 4 times a year at larger trike-servicing points.
- Which days and which bases you cover negotiable and plenty of flexibility available on time work is undertaken (days or eves or weekends).
- Some weekday work Mon – Weds needed for ‘emergency an ‘urgent fix’. Such fixes average 1 month or 2 in high season. The rest is taken care of in weekly checks plus regular services at the time you choose.
- Some holiday / peak season cover desirable (July-August particularly) or this may be covered by a second mechanic e.g. if someone wants less hours overall and wants that season.
- Plus average of a further 4 hours per month -to schedule for servicing negotiable to fit your and the charity’s needs.
Key requirements
- Must have min. 2 years cargo and electric trike specific experience.
- Exceptional, reliable, motivated mechanic. [Reciprocated us to you].
- Will need to get own self-employed cycle mechanic insurance. Additionally, you are covered when on our sites under public liability insurance.
- Brighton based or very easy-reach Brighton highly preferred.
- Year-round work required. Additional hours May – September if you want.
- Some urgent weekday occasional fixes (usually 1 hour or less but can be up to 2 hours per fix) can be done anytime day or evening. Frequency varies – average once a month.
- Minimum 2 hours per week. Then servicing can be done anytime of day or evening to suit you.
- Experience of managing customer relations appropriately and efficiently.
Location: Brighton area principally with options for adding any up to 3 more charity cycle bases if you want [within 20 min drive of Brighton]. Car not required for Brighton base but would be needed for the other bases.
Further training options will be supported in specifics of the trike fleets.
